MUSIC UNIT

In line with the National Arts Council objective, the Music unit of the council is there for access, participation and appreciation of music by all Seychellois.

It will encourage and support exchanges and participation in musical events by individuals or groups both local and abroad.

It will promote local music initiatives throughout Seychelles provided by the staff and extended though alliances with other organizations and individuals .

In the National Arts Council calendar of activities, the music component would also be implemented, catering for all tastes and the youths especially.

FUNCTIONS :

To develop and promote music as an art through associations, individuals and organizations having interest in music.

To inculcate in Seychellois artists and others who are directly or indirectly affiliated with music, the sense of professionalism through different educational programs.



To be a facilitator for the Music associations .

To advice and educate music artists as well as the public on the way the music business functions .


To provide regular access to music news and to modrn technology in communications .

The unit has a very good relationship with the only music association at present, which is Lanmizik San Frontyer.

1. As part of our endeavours to bring a change in the functioning of the music Industry, we hold a meeting every Monday at 1.30 p.m in the N.A.C Conference Room where we discuss strategies on different issues which we have identified as priorities on a list of actions . The meeting is assisted by the members of ‘Lanmizik San Frontyer.(Below)

The unit has to ensure that music day which falls on 21st June, is celebrated. Activities commemorating the day is organised in collaboration with Alliance Francaise, school of music and Lanmizik San Frontyer.

The unit has also the responsibility of organising the music component of the Seychelles Arts Festival (April).
